Homesteads on Grand Officially Celebrated in Johnson City!
The SEPP Group, Regan Development Corporation and project partners gathered on September 9 to officially celebrate the completion of Homesteads on Grand, a 72-unit affordable housing development in Johnson City.
The ribbon-cutting brought together residents, project partners, community leaders and elected officials to recognize the transformation of a long-vacant Brownfield site into new affordable housing for individuals and families. The celebration included remarks from project partners and elected officials, a ribbon cutting and a tour of one of the apartments. Guests also heard from a Homesteads resident about their experience living at the development.
Homesteads on Grand combines affordable housing with supportive services, accessibility and sustainable design. The development includes 12 supportive apartments for eligible residents experiencing homelessness, with rental assistance and on-site services provided by the YWCA of Binghamton and Broome County. Services include outreach, assessment, referrals, case management, health care coordination and assistance with household management.
The development also features accessible and adaptable apartments designed to accommodate residents with mobility, hearing and vision impairments. All apartments are visitable and adaptable, creating greater housing opportunities for residents of all abilities. The apartments are available to households earning up to 70% of Area Median Income (AMI).
“Homesteads on Grand is a great example of what can happen when everyone comes together with a shared commitment to creating quality, affordable housing,” said Justin Roberts, Executive Director of The SEPP Group. “We’re proud to have been part of this project and to see a long-vacant property transformed into a place where individuals and families can call home.”
Housing with a Heart means more than simply providing an affordable apartment. It reflects the idea that housing is about people, dignity, stability and having a place to feel at home.
